Jaigarh Fort – This has never been taken in any war, and was regarded as the most fortified among the three forts of the region. Jaigarh Fort houses the largest cannon of the world, which has been fired only once. As per folklore, the cannonball had traveled up to 35 km after being fired just with half of the powder required for firing. Better reasons for visiting this place would be the beautiful gardens that lie on the other side of the fort along with the breathtaking view of Amber Fort.
Nahargarh Fort – The smallest of the three forts, which gained popularity mainly because of the fantastic view of the Man Sagar Lake and the sprawling city of Jaipur. There is also a palace called Madhavendra Bhawan located inside the fort, but its past grandeur is losing charm rapidly due to the presence of graffiti and pigeon excreta. Parts of the film Rang De Basanti have been shot here. In order to reach the shooting location of the “Pathshala” song, you have to take a left immediately on entering the fort.
The Govind Devji Temple – The most sacred temple for the Vaishnavites, especially those who are devotees of Lord Krishna, is this one, second only to Vrindavan in importance. The deities that were present in this temple had been transferred from Vrindavan to Jaipur by the time of the Mughals’ reign. There is a popular story regarding this temple that states that the image of Lord Krishna is identical to his Earthly form.
This temple is situated right in the middle of Jaipur city. It can be said that this temple is the primary place of religion for the people of Jaipur. Moti Dungri is a hill, and in English, it means “Pearl Hill.” On this particular hill, there exists both a palace and a temple. The Moti Dungri temple worships the Lord Ganesha, and it is believed that this temple was built first when this city was built.
Lakshmi Narayan Temple, (also called The Marble Temple) (or Birla Temple), (situated below famous Moti Dungri fort) is an architectural wonder, being very new and made up of beautiful white marble carved with great skill. This temple has a very large area and is constructed in modern style. The Birla temple is built completely in fine white marble.
Galtaji is an ancient Hindu pilgrimage site situated 10 km from Jaipur on Jaipur-Agra highway near Sisodia Rani Garden. The main temple here is temple of Galtaji in constructed in pink stone. The temple has a number of pavilions with rounded roofs, exquisitely carved pillars and painted walls. The temple is surrounded by natural springs and reservoirs that are considered holy. There are also seven tanks or kunds here.
Sisodia Rani Garden and Palace is a palace garden 6 kilometres from Jaipur city. It was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1728. The place consists of tiered multi-level gardens with fountains, watercourses and painted pavilions. A double-storeyed palace occupies the top terrace of the garden. The palace has many galleries, pavilions and beautiful murals depicting scenes from the life of lord Krishna.
The palace garden derives its name, Sisodia Rani Garden and Palace, from the rani (queen) for whom it was built. She hailed from the Sisodia line of Suryavanshi (Sun dynasty) Rajputs, who ruled and now nominally rule the region of Mewar in Rajasthan.
