Jaipur Sightseeing Tour Package 1

The picturesque and historic city of Jaipur is the gateway to Rajasthan, one of the most magnificent states of India.
Jaipur is the biggest city in Rajasthan and was founded during the 11th century by Sawai Jai Singh, who founded it as the first planned city of India. Jaipur serves as an important destination for domestic and foreign tourists. Jaipur is a part of the popular Indian tour triangle consisting of Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra. Several landmarks such as City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Govind Dev ji Temple, Birla Temple, and large forts are located in Jaipur.

Jaipur is known as the Pink City because of its characteristic pink buildings that were once painted in pink to imitate the red sandstone used in the Mughal cities. The current color of red in the walls stems from their renovation when the Prince of Wales visited in 1876.

Palace of the Breeze (Hawa Mahal). Erected in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Singh as part of City Palace. It served as an addition to the zenana or the ladies’ chambers of the palace. This palace’s use was for ladies of the royalty to watch the life going on outside the palace without themselves being watched by anyone. It stands five stories high with more than 950 windows made out of red sandstone.

City Palace, (Inside the ancient city, near New Gate and Hawa Mahal). A splendid amalgamation of Rajput and Mughal architecture. The palace covers an area of almost one-seventh of the pink city. It was built initially by Maharaja Jai Singh II. The palace is a set of many courtyards, expansive gardens, and buildings. This includes several palaces such as Chandra Mahal, (present Maharajah’s residence), Mubarak Mahal (Textile Museum), Diwan-e-Khas (Hall of Private Audience that houses two of the largest silver pots in the world, as duly mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records), Diwan-e-Aam (Hall of Public Audience), and Ridhi Sidhi Pol (gateway with four doorways having representations of all four seasons).

Jantar Mantar, (adjacent to the City Palace), 9:00 a.m-4:30 p.m. This UNESCO world heritage site was constructed during the period between 1727-1734 AD and is the biggest among five observatories built by the Maharaja Jai Singh. The observatory contains fourteen instruments that were built specifically to measure time, predict eclipses, follow the motions of heavenly bodies and their orbits around earth. Signs are posted which contain detailed descriptions about the functions of each instrument, but it would be easier to hire one of the available guides at the observatory who can explain everything to you just as elaborately. The audio guide is quite disappointing as it doesn’t provide much more information than what’s already mentioned on the signs.

Jal Mahal (Water Palace) (on route to Sisodia Rani Garden). There exists a Rajput style palatial architecture within the midst of Maan Sarovar lake. This lake is generally dry during winters, however, during summer months it becomes a scenic lake full of aquatic plants like water hyacinth.

Amber Fort, (11 km North of central Jaipur), 08:00-17:30. This massive fort-palace complex built in hybrid Hindu-Muslim style dates back to Raja Man Singh and was the royal palace of the Kachwahas from c. 1600-1727. The name has nothing to do with the rather pretty pastel yellow colour; instead, the fort is named after the town of Amber, in turn named after the goddess Amba. The main sights within the fort include the Sheesh Mahal, adorned with thousands on thousands of mirror tiles on the walls and ceiling. The fort/palace grounds are sprawling and the information panels (hindi/english) are somewhat limited, so it might be worth getting an audio guide or a real guide. The real guide will cost about Rs 70-100 and will also take you to the Rajasthan Kala Mandir (a government operated shop) to buy souvenirs. The guide gets a 2% commission on the items you buy. Also see the Amber Light Show below. It’s a bit of a hike up to the fort from the town, but resist the temptation to take an elephant ride to the top. Elephant rides are cruel to the animals and they are often treated very poorly by their keepers, so it’s best not to encourage the practice.

Albert Hall Museum is a museum located in Jaipur, in the state of Rajasthan, India. This museum is the oldest in the state and serves as the State museum for Rajasthan. The structure is found in the Ram Niwas Garden, which lies outside the city walls opposite the New Gate, and is an excellent specimen of Indo-Saracenic style architecture. The museum structure was designed by Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob and built by Mir Tujumool Hoosein in 1887.
